About Me

Hello! I'm Harry Ramsay, a First Class Aeronautical Engineering graduate and Experimental Aerodynamics PhD Student based in London.

I am a good worker both individually and in a team, skills which I developed through a number of challenges and a course I was selected to attend at the RMIT University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

My passion lies in experimental aerodynamics and has seen me work on a number of research projects to date, making use of a wide variety of experimental measurement techniques such as Laser Doppler Anemometry, Schlieren Imaging and Flow-Visualisation. My research has considered mainly flow control and laminar-turbulent transition.

Outside of education I have a keen interest in music, holding two grade eight qualifications as well as grade's four and five in other areas. I also have interest and experience in practical work, working when possible with my father in historic racing restoration and preparation.

Education & Experience

University

First Class graduate studying modules including:

Mathematics Fluid Mechanics & Thermodynamics Mechatronics Aerodynamics & Propulsion Flight Dynamics & Control Solid Mechanics Measurement & Data Analysis Structural Mechanics Structural Analysis Electronics Engineering Management, Reliability and Safety

ALFA Seal

During my final year of studies I was employed as a research assistant on the ALFA Seal project. This project looked at the development of a new wing panel sealing technology, and was also the topic of my final dissertation. Throughout my time on the project I was involved in mechanical and aerodynamic testing of the seal, with both qualitative and quantitative data recorded through Schlieren imaging and laser Doppler anemometry. I was also responsible for a conference article promoting the project and development, due for publication later this year. The project received funding from Innovate UK.

Research Assistant

After losing a previous candidate on short notice, I was asked if I was interested in conducting wind-tunnel testing for a project based at Swansea University. This was a fantastic opportunity to expand my experimental testing knowledge by using different equipment and testing setups. More information on this project will be available after the project is complete and relevant documents published.

Hobbies

I have a broad range of activities including:

Cycling Music Hiking Motorsport Karting Photography

Music

Music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. Early on in primary school I began learning the keyboard and in 2017 achieved my Grade 8. I have also completed a Grade 8 music theory qualification along with Grade 4 Drums and Grade 5 Ensemble. During my time studying music I also had a big involvement in the Behind-The-Scenes of live performances in terms of Sound, Lighting and Stage Management.
Now at university, I have continued my passion for music by being on the committee of the Music Society. I am currently in my second year on the committee after being reelected.
